Roye Oliver III, a sophomore wide receiver for Hamilton High School in Chandler, has been named the 2025 Ed Doherty Award recipient as Arizona’s top prep football player.

The announcement was made Saturday at a luncheon hosted by the Arizona Sports & Entertainment Commission.

Oliver was one of more than 100 student-athletes nominated for the honor throughout the season. He led the state in receiving yards (1,839), receiving touchdowns (29), and receiving yards per game (153.2). He ranked second in receptions (92), while playing in 12 games.

“The Ed Doherty Award represents the pinnacle of high school football recognition in Arizona,” said ASEC Executive Director Nikki Balich. “We congratulate Roye on this incredible achievement in just his sophomore season, as he inspires others both on the gridiron and beyond.”

The Ed Doherty Award “serves as the state of Arizona’s highest individual high school football honor, annually recognizing the most outstanding player on and off the field,” according to a release.

Recipients are selected for demonstrating “remarkable ability combined with diligence, perseverance, hard work and integrity in their pursuit of excellence, while also celebrating a commitment to academics, community and school pride.”
