East Valley council OKs ‘drink-spiking’ ordinance

Chandler’s City Council only passed one major new ordinance the week of April 9, but it was probably one of few of its type being worked on in the Valley now.

Council gave unanimous preliminary approval, by approving its April 9 regular meeting consent agenda, to an ordinance that makes it a misdemeanor crime to spike someone’s drink or food with an intoxicant without knowledge and consent.

Council member O.D. Harris said, during an April 6 study session, he first brought the ideas to the city manager, legal department and other staff months ago, thanking them for their hard work in helping put the ordinance together.
