East Valley city to annex portion of Meridian Drive maintained by Maricopa County

The city of Apache Junction is seeking to annex the Meridian Drive right of way on the west side of the county line from Elliot Avenue to Ray Avenue so it has jurisdiction over the road.

The Apache Junction City Council will hold a public hearing and vote on an intergovernmental agreement with Maricopa County to initiate the annexation process during a meeting that begins at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 in the council chambers 300 E. Superstition Blvd.

The approximately 55-foot-wide Meridian Drive right of way has historically been split between the cities of Apache Junction and Mesa, and Maricopa County, Senior Planner Nicholas Leftwich said at the council’s Nov. 4 meeting.
