East Valley city council leaves all 4 charter changes on Nov. 3 ballot

One Chandler council member’s effort to get his peers to take a second look at a proposed residency requirement change for top city officials was unsuccessful.

On the heels of City Manager John Pombier directing Police Chief Bryan Chapman to move within city limits to comply with Pombier’s understanding of the current Chandler charter, Councilmember O.D. Harris took time at a July meeting to revisit one of the four amendments voters will be asked to approve on their Nov. 3 ballots.

The amendment had already been assigned a November proposition number — 434 — by Maricopa County officials when Harris asked to revisit it at a July 13 Council study session. Harris asked procedural questions of Acting City Attorney Tawn Kao and City Clerk Jennifer Ekblad, later telling Council he wanted to “just make sure we really want voters to decide on this now.”
