Edward Topping and Marites Topping recently agreed to probation and to jointly pay nearly $202,500 in unpaid transaction privilege tax and fines of $7,500 to the Arizona Department of Revenue, as well as individual unpaid income tax and fines.

From July 1, 2019, through December 31, 2020, the Toppings and their business, HelpSellRV LLC — a recreational vehicle dealership at 10327 E. Apache Trail in east Mesa and in the Apache Junction ZIP code of 85120 — failed to pay TPT, according to a release from the Arizona Department of Revenue.

Further, investigators also found that between tax years 2016 through 2019, Edward failed to file Arizona income tax returns and pay Arizona individual income tax amounting to $6,802; and Marites failed to file and pay Arizona individual income tax from years 2016 through 2018 amounting to $7,571, it states.

On Jan. 28, Edward Topping pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to file a tax return and one count of failure to pay tax.

On Feb. 9, Marites Topping pleaded guilty to one of failure to file a tax and in her capacity as member of HelpSellRV LLC, pleaded guilty to one count of preparing a false return.

Separately, Edward and Marites Topping agreed to pay their tax debts as well as a $2,500 fine each. Additionally, they consented to cooperate in any civil audit conducted by the Arizona Department of Revenue.

This criminal investigation was a joint effort of the Criminal Investigations Units at the Arizona Department of Revenue and the Special Investigations Section of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
