Right now, many people are gearing up for the November general election, but one Peoria resident is getting a jump on the race for the city’s top office two years in advance.
After this year’s election, the next candidate election for mayor will be the primary and general elections in 2026, and Judi Smith, an attorney and 8-year Peoria resident who lives in the Mesquite District, has filed a statement of interest to run.
A statement of interest indicates a person is interested in running, but it is not a formal declaration of candidacy.
