Special Olympics Unified Sports teams in the Dysart Unified School District are part of the 1.4 million people taking part in Unified Sports around the world.
Unified Sports is a program that empowers individuals with and without intellectual disabilities to engage using sports. And the Unified Sports program at Valley Vista High School, was one of 37 Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools that made the 2022 ESPN Honor Roll.
To earn the recognition of a national banner school, a school must demonstrate inclusion through 10 standards of excellence. Valley Vista’s program has been active for five years and throughout that time, both the athletes and students have shown success.
