It is devastating, but somehow fitting, that the first Dysart Unified School District board meeting Michele Caruso missed in 10 years — due to her death May 9 — was full of discord regarding Superintendent Quinn Kellis’ resignation.
Caruso, 52, was the connective tissue of the district, trying to bring opposing views and ideologies together for the greater good of public schools in her home town. She attended every board meeting for more than 10 years and her usual chair was unoccupied May 9 except for flowers in remembrance.
“One of the great things about Michele is she had the ability to see people’s hearts whether she agreed with their views,” said Shelley Isai, DUSD administrator for curriculum, instruction and assessment for grades 8-12.
