West Valley student recovers from burns as district revisits bus issues

The family of a Dysart High School student is raising money to defray treatment costs of the girl who collapsed last month from the heat while walking home from school and suffered severe burns on her body.

The family also is raising concerns about students having to walk miles to the school despite record temperatures in August and a cutback in busing routes by the Dysart district due to a failure in recent years to pass a bond.

More than $3,000 has been raised so far via a GoFundMe account for a Dysart Unified School District student identified as June Shaver, 17, who reportedly suffered severe burns after collapsing while walking home in 112-degree temperatures on Aug. 1.
