West Valley school district wants a $127M bond election

Land, new schools among list of needs

The Dysart Unified School District governing board voted 4-1 to adopt a resolution calling for an upcoming $127 million bond election in November.

Board member Chrystal Chaffin was the lone dissenting vote during the evening board meeting March 14 at 15802 N. Parkview Place in Surprise. She echoed the sentiments of a longtime district resident who spoke out against the request before the vote occurred.

“The reason I am against this is what’s happened in the past in this school district and a lot of other ones,” said Steve Gilliam, a more than 20-year resident of El Mirage, describing years of not properly maintaining schools.
