After approval from the governing board, Dysart Unified School District’s pay increase for bus drivers has proved to be an early success.
Bus driver pay was increased from $16.81 an hour to a tiered pay scale that starts at $20 an hour for drivers with zero to three years experience. From there, the rate increases to $21 for four to six years experience, $22 for seven to 10 years and $23 an hour for ten or more years, which are the highest rates in the Valley, according to DUSD officials.
An employee referral bonus also was added in an effort to hire and retain hard-to-fill positions. This went into effect Oct. 4.
