A brother’s broken arm turned one Deer Valley Unified School District student into an advocate for under-resourced hospitals in need.

When Eden Sapien’s brother broke his arm, his doctor put him in a hinged brace — an item that cost the family’s insurance company hundreds of dollars. Once his arm healed, the family looked to donate the brace.

That’s where Eden, a 15-year-old sophomore at Sandra Day O’Connor High School, comes in.
