Deer Valley Unified shows tentative $4.4M budget shortfall

Factors could change ‘cautious estimate,’ including upcoming 100-day count

A school district budget shortfall projection in January may look scary by the dollar amount, but it’s far from a final verdict.

That was the message from Deer Valley Unified School District Director of Finance Heather Mock, who reported at the governing board’s Jan. 12 meeting that DVUSD is looking at a potential $4.47 million shortfall.

Among the factors that will undoubtedly change that figure, however, will be the district’s all-important 100-day count. The district’s actual 100th day of the 2020-21 school year falls on Friday, Jan. 15, and the next budget report accounting for that figure will be shared at the Tuesday, Feb. 9 governing board meeting.
