A chain of events early Sunday morning resulted in the arrest of two people suspected of DUI in separate crashes that involved four vehicles, including a police car, Mesa police said.
Authorities received a call about 2 a.m. March 24 about a crash at 1600 S. Country Club Drive where officers found a Jeep had gone off the road at Country Club and down the side of the on-ramp to the US 60. It landed on its roof on the westbound freeway lanes.
Officers removed the driver, who sustained minor injuries but was arrested after showing signs of impairment, police said.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
An investigation showed the Jeep and car were headed south on Country Club when the Jeep rear-ended the other vehicle, veered to the right and onto the freeway, according to a release.
The drivers were the only passengers in the vehicles.
As Mesa officers were on the freeway blocking westbound traffic due to the collision, a police car was rear-ended on the US 60.
An officer suffered minor injuries, and the driver who hit the police vehicle was arrested for DUI, according to the release.
