SUN CITY - Maxwell, Neb. was the birthplace of Duane Ervin Roberts (08/28/1928-09/14/2014) son of Vernon E. Roberts (08/28/1973) and Willa M. Brittan (07/09/1906-01/14/1969). He was the oldest sibling of four. Duane graduated from Central High School, Kansas City., Mo. in 1946. He served in the Army as a Military Policeman from July 1946-May 1949 in and around Tokyo, Japan. He attended the 8th Army Signal School in Yokohama, Japan in 1948. After returning to K. C., Duane received an Associate Arts Degree from Kansas City Junior College in 1951. He also completed courses at KCJC 1957-1958 and 1970-1971 and took correspondence courses in music history, art and western civilization from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Duane had a thirty-five year career with the City of Kansas City, Mo. starting out as an Engineer Aid I; Traffic Engineer Aid II; General Foreman; General Foreman II and retired as a Traffic Engineer Tech I in the Traffic Control Department. Duane was married Mar. 15, 1963 in Kansas City, Mo. to his dancing partner for the next forty six years, Georgia C. Roberts (06/19/1923-04/29/2009). In 1988 after both of them retired from the City of Kansas City, they moved to Sun City, Ariz. and pursued an active retirement and involvement in several dancing clubs with friends, family events and holidays, service and worship at First Presbyterian Church of Sun City. Duane enjoyed genealogy and dancing at several Sun City dance clubs: Country Dance Club, Sun City Variety Dance Club, Sun City Ballroom Dance Club, Sundial Dance Club, Sun City Line Dance Club and Sun City Singles Dance Club. He was a member of the Sun City Elks Lodge #2559 where he loved to go to dance. Duane is survived by his brother Stuart Roberts, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; stepdaughter and her husband Pamela and Edward Lenhart, Sun City, Ariz.; Stepson Marvin D. Willis, Little Rock, Ark.; three adult grandchildren Hollie Cook, Mt. Vernon, Wash., Stefanie McDaniel, Surprise, Ariz. and Steven Hulett, Phx, Ariz.; five great- grandsons and one great- granddaughter. A Celebration of Life service is planned at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church of Sun City. Duane will be inurned at a later date in the Columbarium at First Presbyterian Church with Pamela's Mother, Georgia Roberts. Gifts in memory of Duane E. Roberts can be given to: Banner Hospice 275 E.
