Drummond: How is city’s governmental bureaucracy set up?

Posted

Would just like to thank Jim Burezewski on his letter (“Story advocating for raise in pay for city manager?” in opinions, page 8 of the October 2021 issue of the Apache Junction/Gold Canyon Independent) addressing the article advocating a pay raise for the city manager (“5 in city government paid $140K-plus: Records reveal Apache Junction’s top 25 highest-paid workers” on the cover of the September 2021 issue).

Very articulate and well-written. I am sure tens of thousands if not all 50,000 Apache Junction residents would agree with you.

Your letter made me wonder how is the city’s governmental bureaucracy set up? Exactly how many bureaucrats are drawing income from the city budget and who hires them? What is the hierarchy or chain of command? And also how many actually live in Apache Junction?

I would really appreciate it if the Independent would do an article addressing these questions.

Thank you Independent; I appreciate what you do and thank you again.

Editor’s note: Jerry Drummond is a resident of Apache Junction.
