Scottsdale PD assists in tracking down suspect's vehicle
The driver of an SUV fired a gun at a Tempe Police Department sergeant who was attempting stop the vehicle early Saturday morning for traffic violations, authorities said.
The sergeant noticed the driver “committing multiple hazardous traffic violations” about 12:53 a.m. July 8 and attempted to pull the SUV over near Priest Drive and Washington Street, police said.
“During the traffic stop the driver of the SUV stuck his arm out of the driver window and fired in the direction of the Tempe sergeant before driving off at a high rate of speed,” officials said in a release.

The sergeant noticed the driver “committing multiple hazardous traffic violations” about 12:53 a.m. July 8 and attempted to pull the SUV over near Priest Drive and Washington Street, police said.
“During the traffic stop the driver of the SUV stuck his arm out of the driver window and fired in the direction of the Tempe sergeant before driving off at a high rate of speed,” officials said in a release.
With the assistance of Scottsdale police, the SUV was located and followed into an apartment complex near 65th and Greenway Parkway where it was found parked and unoccupied.
No one was injured, and an investigation continued Saturday.
