A 21-year-old driver faces a criminal damage charge after police said he was performing “donuts” Sunday morning with his pickup truck and struck a fire hydrant near South Kyrene Road and West Grove Parkway, causing damages of more than $10,000.
The collision caused “significant flooding that impacted water lines, the road, sidewalks and surrounding landscaping,” Tempe police stated in a release.
Gabriel Haynes was taken into custody without incident. He was booked and released pending for criminal damage – recklessly damaging utility property with estimated damages exceeding $10,000.
