A 76-year-old woman is dead after the vehicle she was driving late Saturday night collided with light rail near 21st and Washington streets in Phoenix, police said.
The crash happened about 11:30 p.m. Feb. 24.
Sandra Barbre was the driver of the car who died after being taken to a hospital. A woman passenger in the vehicle is in critical condition at the hospital, police said.
Detectives said Sunday morning that the collision happened one of two ways. Either Barbre’s vehicle was westbound on Washington Street and made a southbound turn in front of light rail or it was southbound exiting Interstate 10 and crossed in front of light rail, which was heading westbound through the intersection on a green light.
