A woman was arrested after she allegedly drove the wrong way along Interstate 17 north of the Valley.

Sharon Weaver, 70, was arrested Wednesday on charges endangerment, criminal damage and DUI.

Around 9 p.m. Aug. 24, authorities learned of a truck traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-17 in the Black Canyon City area.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the truck collided with another vehicle, whose driver was treated at the scene.

The driver of the truck, identified as Ms. Weaver, remained at the scene and told DPS she had just left the VFW in Black Canyon City.

The trooper smelled a strong odor of alcohol and saw Ms. Weaver’s eyes were red and watery.

Ms. Weaver agreed to a sobriety test and admitted to DPS that she knew she was intoxicated.

She was taken to a Phoenix hospital for treatment and eventually booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.

Court documents don’t indicate a preliminary blood alcohol content level.

Ms. Weaver was released on her own recognizance with court dates Aug. 8 and 14.
