Downtown Phoenix district asks for same budget as it moves from Super Bowl to Final Four

Events budget is smaller but increases made elsewhere

A district promoting downtown Phoenix says it needs the same budget in 2024 as it did in 2023 when it was promoting events tied to the Super Bowl.

Downtown Phoenix Inc., which the city of Phoenix contracts to manage a special taxing district downtown, is proposing a significantly smaller events budget next year — 26% less than the Super Bowl year in 2023 — upticks by 2% to 3% in other areas of the budget result in no change for the overall budget from 2023 to 2024.

The Valley is hosting another marquee sporting event this year, the NCAA men’s basketball Final Four, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, as well as the WNBA All-Star Game at Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix.
