Downtown Glendale’s cafe lighting officially turns on

First phase of the new aesthetic to ‘welcome’ visitors

Years of planning to add some twinkle to Glendale’s downtown paid off Thursday night.

The city officially switched on its new cafe lighting, which spans Glendale Avenue between 58th Drive and 58th Avenue. The lights slowly switched colors, including a basic white look.

It’s the first phase for the new lighting designed to “welcome” visitors into Historic Downtown Glendale and its blocks of boutiques and restaurants, along with the center gathering spot of Murphy Park, named for the city’s founder William J. Murphy. The city turned 130 years old in February of this year.
