Dorothy Purvis
Posted
Dorothy Purvis, with her husband, Leslie Purvis, retired in 1988 from Pasadena, California to Arizona, long time residents of Sun City West with Dorothy living her final years in Sun City. Dorothy's first husband, James Ryan, died in 1945, and after sixty-three years of marriage, Les passed away at ninety-seven, with Dorothy, at one hundred, passing away September 1, 2018, of a stroke. Dorothy had five children: Patricia, Thomas, Douglas, Valerie and Brian, is survived by four; two sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; one long time companion; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way. Dot's highly competitive nature was inspirational and evident in everything she attempted; was an avid golfer, bowler, unbeatable card player, proficient seamstress, talented artist, and possessed a vocabulary worthy of crossword puzzles and anagrams. She was grateful for her wholesome childhood in Hutchinson, MN, with her parents, Perley Parker and Laura Goldie Pendergast, the youngest of their seven children. Much loved, Dorothy was a very intelligent, competent woman with a tremendously strong constitution, who raised her five children by example to think for themselves, be proud of your efforts, take your knocks, don't complain, and always, always do your best. She will be incredibly missed and wonderfully remembered by her family, nieces and nephews, numerous extended family and the many friends over the years whose lives she touched during a very long and happy, much enjoyed and fully lived, life.
