DonaMae Y. Hanson

SUN CITY - DonaMae Y. Hanson passed away peacefully Oct. 7. DonaMae was born June 30, 1923, in Egeland, N.D. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bob Hanson. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Filkins and son-in-law Terry Filkins; her son, Robert D. Hanson and daughter-in-law Paula Brown-Hanson; her sisters, EmmaGene Gross and Genevieve Paulson; and brothers-in-law, Ralph Hanson and Leroy Hanson; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. DonaMae started the West Side Appliance in Great Falls, Mont., in 1948, with her husband. She helped him build the store and ran the business while he did appliance installations. She later moved to Monarch, Mont., where she established a sewing circle which is still active. She also was instrumental in establishing the Senior Center in Neihart, Mont., and the volunteer fire department in Monarch, Mont. She loved sewing, knitting and baking. Throughout her life her home was a center for family gatherings. After they retired, she traveled extensively with her husband throughout Europe, the Far East, Australia and New Zealand. A memorial service is planned on Oct. 20, at 10:30 a.m., at the Willowbrook United Methodist Church in Sun City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in DonaMae's name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
