DOJ investigation into Phoenix Police could head to court

City officials oppose agreeing to changes before investigation results released

Three members of Phoenix City Council said they don’t plan on agreeing to any U.S. Department of Justice oversight of Phoenix Police without first seeing all the findings of the DOJ’s two-year investigation into the department.

That could mean the matter heads to court.

“We just want to see what they have found,” said Kevin Johnson, member of the Public Safety and Justice Subcommittee and 36-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department, during the subcommittee’s meeting on Wednesday.
