DOJ drops investigation into Phoenix Police, retracts findings

President Donald Trump's Department of Justice on Wednesday announced it is dropping the investigation into the Phoenix Police Department and retracted scathing findings against the department that the DOJ published last year under the Biden administration.

DOJ investigations were similarly dropped into five other police departments across the country. The DOJ also cancelled police reform agreements, called consent decrees, with the police departments in Minneapolis and Louisville that followed the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor which sparked nationwide racial injustice protests in the summer of 2020.

The DOJ under Joe Biden or Kamala Harris may likely have pursued a consent decree with Phoenix Police as well, though several city leaders had taken a stance against any such agreement.
