2 Peoria Unified board members want policy on transgender students, bathrooms

Could lead to lawsuits, revocation of funds

Peoria Unified governing board members Heather Rooks and Rebecca Hill want policy written requiring bathrooms be gender binary, that is — either male or female.

Such a move likely would fly in opposition of Title IX, the federal law that allows transgender students to use the bathroom they identify with.

Whether a policy comes to the board for consideration is undetermined. The next school board meeting is scheduled for April 13, but the district has not set a date to consider a proposed policy.
