The Make It & Take It Pass offers a dozen things to do, inviting visitors to create or collect something uniquely Gilbert.
For people who want a hands-on experience, the "Make It" category features activities like crafting a custom t-shirt, mastering the art of sourdough, or fashioning a custom jewelry piece. The idea is that visitors can make something special and lasting here in Gilbert.
Guests can also browse the "Take It" category, and sign up to attend a goat yoga class, take home a hand-crafted memento, or even enjoy take-out pizza at Barrio Bagel & Slice – the newest culinary concept from Don Guerra, James Beard Foundation’s 2022 Best Baker in the Country.
While using the pass, guests can check in to their experience at the business using GPS location.
Registered users who complete two Gilbert-based experiences featured on the Make It & Take It Pass will earn enough points for a limited edition print from High Jinks celebrating Gilbert, designed by Gilbert artist Jon Arvizu. The prints will be available while supplies last. Additional prizes are available as more experiences are completed on the Pass.
The Make It & Take It Pass is available starting in May, kicking off U.S. Travel Association’s National Travel & Tourism Week, May 5-9. The town will recognize this economic week at the May 6 council meeting with a proclamation.
The travel industry is a pillar of economic growth in Gilbert, with tourism welcoming 5.7 million visitors in Gilbert and generating $370 million in visitor spending in 2023. Gilbert experienced another milestone, with annual occupied hotel rooms growing by 2.5% in 2024.
