Disabled Arizonans could face huge funding cuts from state

The Developmental Disability community is up in arms over recently learning Arizona legislators are considering cutting 25% of funding from the Division of Developmental Disabilities, which could affect roughly 60,000 individuals across Arizona with intellectual and developmental disabilities such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Cognitive Delay, and Down syndrome, ranging from small children to senior citizens.

The DDD has experienced substantial cost and caseload increases as well as membership growth in recent years, from about 34,000 in 2014 to 59,000 in 2024.

Some of the reasons for these increases include, but are not limited to, an influx of Autism diagnoses and increased administrative costs due to inflation.
