Diethelm K. "Dieter" Fischer, 83, died Friday, March 16, 2018, at Dell Webb Banner Hospice in Sun City West, AZ. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 31st, at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel, Sun City West.Diethelm was born July 17, 1934, in Breitenau, Germany, the son of Kurt and Erna (Sperling) Fischer. He grew up working hard on his family's farm, and then began a cabinetmaking apprenticeship as a teenager, ultimately earning his master's certificate.He immigrated to Chicago in 1960. His beloved Renate Forster joined him there five months later, when they were united in marriage December 23, 1961. They raised three sons, beginning in Broadview, IL, and then Schaumburg, IL. He had a 35-year career as a cabinetmaker with Muelhauser Models, which later became part of Zenith. He could build or repair anything, and his sons treasure the beautiful pieces he created for them. He retired to Sun City West in 1995, where he was a member of the International Club and enjoyed traveling, woodworking, gardening, hiking, playing cards, telling jokes and, most of all, being "Opi" to his three adoring grandchildren.Diethelm is survived by his wife; his children, Gordon (Monica) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Andrew of Phoenix and Lennard (Erin Andrews) of San Carlos, CA; his grandchildren, Maxwell Fischer, Gavin Fischer and Ellie Fischer; a sister, Esther Fobo, and a sister-in-law, Gerlinde Wagner, both of Germany; and several nieces and nephews.
