The former Smitty’s on Grand Avenue in south Peoria was once an area where residents went to shop for more than just groceries. Then it sat in blight for years, and was forced to be demolished a couple years ago.
But with that came renewed interest and the excitement of a new proposed project planned for the parcel.
However, after two developers in three years, the property has once again fallen into uncertainty, as its most recent developer earlier this year postponed two zoning cases for the property to March 2 and followed that with another continuance to a “date uncertain” to allow them an opportunity “to further evaluate the proposal and bring forward a revised formulation of the development.”
