Developer’s new Sonoran Landings senior plan still has Chandler opposition

Previous plan, also opposed, had 236 more units

A public relations specialist says a developer has done everything it can do to make a county-island senior living complex proposal more palatable to local residents.

David Leibowitz says Dominium’s Sonoran Landings, located along the north side of Ocotillo Road, is where a scaled-down senior living complex is proposed. The vacant site has been the topic of much debate under previous Dominium planning, when a 518-unit complex drew the ire of citizens and Chandler elected officials.

Leibowitz says a proposal filed with Maricopa County’s development office in mid-November includes 282 “new homes for seniors, with a strong preference for military veterans.” The two-phase proposal only puts residences on less than half of the 25-acre site, with the remainder proposed as industrial development on the northern side.
