Glendale council approves tentative $1.26B budget with split vote

Surprise $825K appropriation on night of the vote targeted for covered parking structure

The Glendale City Council Tuesday night voted to approve a proposed tentative budget of $1.26 billion for fiscal year 2023-24, but it wasn’t unanimous.

While the tentative budget — scheduled for a final vote June 13 — includes an operating budget of $595 million, a capital improvement budget of $430 million, a debt service budget of $87 million, and a contingency appropriation of $137 million, it was a last-minute appropriation that caused dissension.

There have been two additional items since the council last saw the budget proposal in April.
