Timmesse Thompson had several wishes when she set out to begin her new handbag collection that will be featured next month in Phoenix.
“When I created this collection, I asked God for four things,” she said.
“I asked for Missy Elliott’s innovation … Michelle Obama’s grace … Harriet Tubman’s bravery … and my grand momma Cornelia Crawford’s audacity.”
Those inspirations resulted in handbags she calls Beep Beep (Elliott), The Assignment (Obama), I’m Outside (Tubman) and All the Smoke (her grandmother), according to Thompson, whose collection can be seen Friday, Feb. 3, at a pop-up show during First Friday Roosevelt Row A.R.T.S. in downtown Phoenix.
“The collection features a striking, fashion-forward aesthetic, combining black culture and art,” a release stated.
The Run Up A Check Collection makes use of light, which when it hits the iridescent colors of the bags, “refracts and creates a vivid, yet gradual change of hue,” the designer said.
Thompson’s company, Timmesse LLC, also will use the Feb. 3 event to show the Rock A Bye Baby Gift Bag Set.
