Dementia, Alzheimer’s and hoarding

OPINION — How much is enough? As we get older there comes a time when we decide to retire and move to a retirement community or downsize. Less is more!

Do we take everything we own, even if the house is smaller and we have no basement? Going through years of our possessions and deciding what to keep is very time-consuming and overwhelming. A lot of people just have too much stuff and they have no room in the garage for their cars and the house is overloaded.

Having a garage or yard sale can help to some extent but not if you keep what’s left over and there are a lot of places to donate. Choosing to continually save and collect for the next garage sale is not a good plan. Where does the hoarding end?
