While this was the number one song for all photography hounds in the 1970s, the majority, just like Bob West, didn’t have the luxury of printing the “Greens of Summers.”
In their homemade darkrooms, only the blacks, whites and multitudes of grays were available to bring their photographs to life. Looking into the viewfinder of his camera, he captured the Illinois landscape and vintage architecture in the dog days of summer to snowstorms in winter. Then, back to his darkroom to develop the film and — fingers crossed — have an image slowly emerge from his own chemical concoction that was remarkable.
Living for 18 years in Sun City West, the artist still seeks the landscapes and interesting architecture that first inspired him. Now he carries an array of digital cameras and lenses and comes home to a computer instead of “working in the dark.”
