As a public school with a fairly small enrollment for 4A, Cactus football knew when it was bumped up to 5A it would lack depth compared to the top teams in the conference.
After an 0-2 start the Cobras battled back with a lock down defense and a diverse offense. Beyond that Cactus has won 10 of its last 11 games with another word starting with "d" that is more tough to quantify - determination.
"Guys have just found a way to take care of their bodies and do what they have to do to get them back on the field. All of them know at the end of the day, this could be it. Huge credit to our coaching staff. We've worked our tails off just to compete with these bigger,s tronger teams. Can't say enough about our kids and coaching staff," first-year Cactus head coach Brian Belles said.
