Deer Valley Unified votes to keep Peoria neighborhood at Terramar school

Campus families win controversial proposal, but growing enrollment concerns remain

With growth driving the effort to controversially re-boundary Deer Valley Unified School District, one Peoria neighborhood won its effort to keep students in their current school.

In a special session Tuesday night that the governing board called after tabling the issue to officially re-boundary earlier this month, the board voted unanimously to reassign the Stetson Valley community from the boundary containing Las Brisas Elementary to that of the new as-yet-unnamed elementary school (dubbed “E32” for now). And much to the delight of residents of the Aloravita community, the board also voted to keep that neighborhood’s students in their current school, Terramar, rather than re-boundary those students to Las Brisas for the 2022-23 school year.

The previous motion, which had been tabled for further discussion, called for Aloravita students to change schools, but a parent-led drive that included a petition convinced the board to change that portion of the plan.
