Their teachers were already doing it anyway, but now Deer Valley Unified School District is officially in line with state statutes.
The Arizona House earlier this spring amended requirements for instructional time in social studies classrooms on the Holocaust and other genocides.
The statute previously had called for the state board of education to require instruction about the Holocaust and other genocides for at least three school days, or the equivalent, twice between the seventh and 12th grades. HB 2779 changed that requirement to at least three school days, or the equivalent, on at least two separate occasions during any of grades seven through 12.
