Deer Valley Unified to adjust to Phoenix development ‘we weren’t ready for’

80 acres, previously a golf course, now to be rezoned for 294-home residential development in high-growth area

Deer Valley Unified School District already has plenty of forward planning to do with regards to known future housing developments – and with them future families and children – coming to the district’s boundaries. Now the district is planning for heretofore unknown future developments.

This past January developer Lennar beat out three other bidders in a fight for prime infill land in an Arizona State Land Department auction. The nearly 80-acre parcel in the area of 43rd Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road, close to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in northern Glendale, had a purchase price of over $32 million.

The area was previously zoned for golf as home of The 500 Club Golf Course. Now, Lennar will rezone that spot for a housing development that will include 294 homes.
