Deer Valley Unified sets final date for superintendent’s tenure

While governing board agrees with unanimous vote, disagreements over communication process emerge

The date for Dr. Curtis Finch’s tenure as Deer Valley Unified School District superintendent to end appears to be settled, although arriving there led to new concerns about governing board communication.

The board Tuesday night voted unanimously to accept June 30, 2027, as Finch’s last day after what will at that time mark a decade of his leadership in the Northwest Valley district with 42 schools, some 31,000 students and almost 3,600 employees.

Finch on March 10 surprised district observers and even employees when at the very end of the governing board meeting he announced he would be stepping down. The meeting was adjourned moments later.
