Deer Valley Unified may reverse course on raises – for bus drivers

District to consider salary hikes to keep competitive with neighboring communities

School bus drivers scored a victory in the first part of 2025 and look to add another Tuesday night.

While some Arizona lawmakers were looking to get rid of the School Bus Advisory Council this past February, the Arizona House with bipartisan support voted against dissolving the agency and instead keep it, as well as other state boards, councils, commissions, and committees deemed “functionally unnecessary” by bill sponsor Rep. Alexander Kolodin, R-Scottsdale.

“The Arizona School Bus Advisory Council was established to advise and assist the Arizona Department of Public Safety in developing the Arizona school bus regulations, to recommend curricula for school bus driver safety and training courses, and to advise and consult with the Department concerning matters related to the certification of school bus drivers and the safety of school buses,” the DPS student transportation department states. “In fulfilling those roles, the School Bus Advisory Council may establish committees and working groups to study relevant issues and provide recommendations.”
