Maricopa County 2023 election results were not updated for nearly a day after the initial numbers Nov. 7 but by Nov. 8 the Deer Valley Unified School District had read the writing on the wall.
But the amount of ballots turned in before election week started is likely much larger than what is left, and DVUSD conceded in a press release the morning of Nov. 8 that its bond and override continuation measures will fail.
“While we are disappointed with the apparent results of yesterday’s election, our commitment to DVUSD’s mission of providing extraordinary educational opportunities for all students remains the same. We will spend the coming months working together to determine how to best balance our budget within the limited resources afforded to us with these results. The district will continue to support our students and staff in a manner that has made DVUSD one of the top school districts in Arizona. We look forward to a continued partnership with our community as we work toward positive solutions for the challenges ahead,” DVUSD Superintendent Curtis Finch stated in a press release Nov. 8.
