Three-day run opens March 15

The Deer Valley High School Skyhawk Players will present the classic musical “Cinderella” for four performances March 15-17.

The show starts at 7 p.m. all three nights in the Performing Arts Building on the Deer Valley High School campus, 18424 N. 51st Ave. There will also be a 1 p.m. matinee show on Saturday, March 17.

“The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance,” Becky Bell, theatre and language arts teacher at DVHS since 2002, stated in a news release.

“Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘Cinderella’ was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more that a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.”

General admission tickets are $10 at the door or $8 pre-sale at the school bookstore or online. Tickets for senior citizens age 55 and up and children 10 and under are $8. Children 5 and under are free.

Tickets are available during school hours and immediately after school in the campus bookstore, or online at dvhsaz.booktix.com/. Unsold tickets will be available for purchase 45 minutes before the show.
