Deer Valley board member sidesteps calls to resign amid community anger

A sitting Deer Valley Unified School District governing board member faced calls to resign outside the district office on Tuesday, inside the governing board room from members of the public, and ultimately from the dais from her fellow board members.

Two weeks ago Kim Fisher during a conversation that spilled into a scheduling dispute about a meeting, gave a Nazi salute to board President Paul Carver and said “heil heil,” a move that drew ire from the community and even nationally.

On Tuesday the board met for its regularly scheduled meeting for the first time since the incident with a full agenda, but with a rally outside the district office calling on Fisher to resign going on simultaneously and with nearly 20 residents speaking out during the public comment portion of the meeting with a consistent message for her to step down, finally it was Fisher’s time to address the community.
