Deer Valley board hears 2024-25 benefits proposal

District mostly in Glendale, Phoenix plans to dip into reserves

As is usually the case, medical insurance rates are going up in the Deer Valley Unified School District for the 2024-25 school year.

During the Feb. 13 DVUSD governing board meeting Jim Migliorino, the district’s deputy superintendent of fiscal and business services, laid out a proposal to pay for most of this increase through reserve funding.

The 2024-25 plan recommendation is to cover most of the 6.97% increase in renewal rate, which works out to $1.8 million, by DVUSD expensing $1.55 million from its reserves held with the Valley Schools Employee Benefit Group.
