‘Deeply missed’: Southwest Valley remembers David Schwake’s life of service

Hunger and youth advocate served community for 40-plus years

With a resume of work and volunteer service longer than he was tall, David Schwake touched the lives of thousands of Southwest Valley residents during the 40-plus years he lived and worked here.

As news of the Litchfield Park resident’s death on Feb. 3 spread through the community, friends, colleagues and fellow volunteers mourned the loss of a man many considered a hero, remembering his kindness, humor, loyalty and dedication to helping others.

“David’s passing just doesn’t seem real to me today,” city of Litchfield Park Management Assistant Sonny Culbreth said.
