Decline in student enrollment forces Scottsdale Schools budget decrease

The Scottsdale Unified School District readjusted its 2020-21 budget as it copes with millions of dollars in losses caused by lower enrollment this year and less money than anticipated from a governor-established fund to compensate for COVID-related complications.

Although the district anticipated it would receive $16.5 million in state funding after Gov. Doug Ducey announced a plan for stabilized school funding, only $9.65 million came in, district officials say.

The cause: less students attending SUSD schools.
