Death probe begins after Scottsdale hiker’s body found

Posted

The body of Hannah Moody was found Thursday afternoon near the Gateway Trailhead of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Scottsdale, and police have begun a death investigation.

Moody’s body was found about 12:05 p.m. May 22. She was first reported missing about 7:50 p.m. May 21.

A search began that included drones and a Phoenix Police Department helicopter. The search was called off for the day at 11:30 p.m. May 21, according to a Scottsdale Police Department release.

On May 22, the search resumed, and Moody’s body was found by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit.

There are no signs of foul play or trauma, police said.

“Scottsdale detectives and crime scene personnel will now conduct a thorough investigation to piece together what happened to Hannah and how she died. Our investigation will be in cooperation with the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner, which will ultimately determine the cause of death,” the release stated.
