David Maurice Hodgins

David passed away on November 30, 2024 in Sun City West, Arizona. He was born October 17, 1941 in Grand Rapids, MN to Hilda and Maurice Hodgins. He graduated from Deer River High School and Hamline University in St Paul. He worked for 37 years for the Minnesota Department of Transportation in St. Paul. He was married for 36 years to the love of his life, Judy.
He is survived by son Jeffrey Schedin (Susan) of Buckeye, Daughters Jen Sarafina David) of Las Vegas and Joanna Bejarano (Allan) of St Paul, and 5 grandchildren.
Dave was always active in the community and loved to volunteer. He was a Past Master of Midway FM&AM Lodge, Osman Shrine and Scottish Rite in St. Paul. In 2005 they moved to SCW.
One of the first things Dave did upon moving to Sun City West was join the Posse. He served 17 years as Driver, Dispatcher, GM Secretary, Member of the Board of Directors Posse and “Edward 388 Driver” for the Sherriff’s office. Dave co-chaired Shepherd of the Hills Worship Committee for 5 years. Dave was frequently liturgist.
Once a day, Dave and Judy walked their yard to admire the beautiful roses and other plants. He served as President of the SCW Desert Garden Club for 5 years. In 2020 when they moved into independent living at Grandview Terrace, their yard had 34 rose bushes. At Grandview he served on the Resident Advisory Council and Scholarship Committee. He was an avid bridge player and made friends wherever he went.
Dave had a passion for music. Their first date was to a Mahler concert with the MN Orchestra. They spent 11 summers in Logan, UT at the Utah Opera and Music Festival. They seldom missed a concert including the While on their River Cruises they attend all the concerts as they could find in many beautiful halls.
